RADARCIREBON.ID – Vice President Indonesia Ma’ruf Amin has handed over the decision regarding the minimum age for presidential and vice-presidential candidates (presidential and vice-presidential candidates) to the decision of a constitutional review submitted to the Constitutional Court (MK).

“Regarding the issue of the age of presidential and vice-presidential candidates, I leave it to the Constitutional Court to consider the pros and cons. Whether to maintain it above 40 or perhaps allow it to be lowered to 35,” said Vice President Ma’ruf Amin after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the As’adiyah Islamic Boarding House Apartment, in Sebatik, North Kalimantan, on Thursday (August 3).

The Vice President responded to reporters’ questions regarding the constitutional review of the rule on the minimum age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the Election Law, requested by several parties to be lowered from the current 40 years to 35 years.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III Ahmad Sahroni considers the proposal to lower the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates from 40 years to 35 years, which is being discussed in the Constitutional Court, as a positive opportunity for the younger generation to contribute to the nation.

“In my opinion, this is good because young people will have the opportunity to contribute to their nation,” said Sahroni in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday (August 3).

He mentioned that maturity, wisdom, and critical thinking are not determined by age.

“There are young people who are mature in their thinking, and there are older people who are still childish. So, age doesn’t matter, what matters is the quality of leadership,” he said.
